Funeral Procedures

      “He who believes in Me though he may die, he shall live.”

Pastor James Utley, the ministerial staff, officers and Malaby’s Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church family join in your grief in the death of your loved one.

We have set up guidelines to assist families and we need you to follow proper guidelines to ensure that everything is done in decency and in order.

We need you to do the following when death occurs within the church family:

1. Immediately contact the church (919.266.1071) and advise us that a death has occurred.
2. Meet or talk with the Chairman of The Deacon Ministry before making final arrangements with the funeral home.


Of all life’s experiences, the death of a loved one is often the most painful and challenging.  We hope the information below will assist you in preparing for your loved one’s home-going celebration service. The death of a loved can leave the survivors, lost and alone,  or just unsure of ….

Who to Contact:

1. Inform family members / friends regarding the death of your loved one.
2. Inform the Funeral Home

Funeral services at  Malaby’s Crossroads MBC:

– Services are designed to meet the needs of the family.

– The Board of Deacons/the Pastor or the church secretary will meet or speak with the family to review the following:

– Funeral date: Is the funeral date agreeable to the church, family and the funeral home?
– Eulogist – The family’s request is considered, however the Pastor has final approval.
– Order of Service- A copy can be found below. Please review and/or complete the items below prior to speaking with the minister:

– The Prelude
– The Processional of Clergy & Family
– The Hymn
– The Prayer of Comfort
– The Scripture (Old Testament & New Testament)
– Song
– Resolutions/Acknowledgements/Remarks-  No more than three (3) people, 2 minutes each. (ex. family, friend, or worker, etc.)
– Obituary Reading
– Song
– Eulogy
– Closing Prayer
– Burial/Cemetery – Instructions

Other Items to Consider:

The Hospitality Ministry selects the repast menu and are reviewed on a case by case basis.

– Easel for pictures
– Special sound request – Playing of CD or DVD
– Ceremonies / Reserved seating – such as Sororities/Fraternities, Masonic, Eastern Star, etc.

Funeral Service for Non-Members at Malaby’s Crossroads:

Malaby’s Crossroads will consider the usage of the church facility based on availability and a completed rental and fee agreement. The Deacon Ministry will handle discussion.
